Sydney commuters in for storms tonight
Severe thunderstorms are likely to develop this afternoon or early this evening for
Sydney, with the risk of hailstones and destructive wind gusts.
The worst of it may hit during the commute home, according to The Weather
Channel meteorologist Jane Bunn.
"There is some very unstable air just above us which could end the day with a
bang, she said. There is the potential for severe thunderstorms to develop this
afternoon or early evening, carrying the risk of hailstones. Destructive wind gusts
are a real possibility today as well.
"Sydney will be right in the middle of a clash between two very different air
masses, and that is sure to bring severe weather.
Warm winds will strengthen from lunchtime and the clouds will increase, with rain
developing this afternoon, she said.
Sydney reached 32.8 degrees on Saturday, its hottest day in early Spring for 110
years. A much calmer and cooler day is likely for Sydney tomorrow.
