ROCKHAMPTON HOSTS CRITICAL CLIMATE UPDATE
With the emissions trading legislation to feature in the news again, what better time to discuss the contentious issue of
human-caused global warming and adaptive, scientifically backed policies to deal with natural climate change that wont
cost Australians our jobs and economy?
Whilst many people want governments to take action to limit CO2 emissions, there are a growing number of people who
argue that not enough evidence exists to link CO2 emissions with global warming.
Professor Bob Carter, Science Adviser to the Australian Climate Science Coalition (ACSC) and Marine Geologist from
James Cook University, is most definitely among those who assert that after 20 years of intensive research and great
expenditure, there is no convincing empirical evidence to support the claim that the human effect on climate, adds up to a
measurable global signal. One of Australias foremost experts on climate change, Professor Carter asserts that the human
global signal is small and lies submerged deeply within the noise and variability of the natural climate system.
On Tuesday October 6th, Professor Carter will be presenting Rockhampton residents with the latest findings on climate
change, the roles humans play in this and an outline of comprehensive strategies that the nation can adopt to deal
sensibly with the real threat of natural climate change.
I am very much looking forward to my visit to Rockhampton where I will be discussing, among other matters, the urgent
need for a national climate policy that improves our ability to recognise, manage and adapt to natural climate change and
events. It really is a no-brainer as it would cost a fraction of the mooted emissions trading legislation and
contingent
damage to the economy, energy systems, the standard of living and the world food supply would be avoided, said
Professor Carter.
By their very nature, strategies that can cope with the dangers of natural climate change including bush fires and flooding
will readily cope with human-caused change too, should that ever manifest itself and be backed by conclusive evidence. I
strongly believe that the Australian public should have access to a balanced view on climate change in order to form an
educated opinion on arguably the most important issue of our time, continued Professor Carter.
Certain to be highly informative, Professor Carter will
make his presentation at

About the Australian Climate Science Coalition (ACSC)
The Australian Climate Science Coalition, is an affiliate of
the International Climate Science Coalition
and was formed by a group of scientists and
professional people interested in encouraging continued scientific research into the worlds climate and in particular into the effects of increased concentrations
of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The mission of the ACSC is to promote open scientific debate on the causes of climate change. ACSC is an apolitical,
not for profit, science advisory group. For more information about the ACSC, visit www.auscsc.org.au
