RMIT academic at climate change inquiry

RMIT University coastal planning expert Barbara Norman will share the findings of

her research on the need for a climate change “buffer zone” with Federal MPs at a

public hearing in Melbourne today.

The House of Representatives Climate Change, Water, Environment and the Arts

Committee is holding public hearings in Melbourne today and tomorrow, as part of

its inquiry into the impact of climate change on Australia’s coastal zone.

Ms Norman has conducted extensive research on the possible impacts of climate

change on coastal towns around Australia.

Her work has shown the need for a “buffer zone” around Australia’s coast, as part

of the strategies required to protect current and future residents from the impact of

rising sea levels and climate change.

Ms Norman is presenting her research to the committee at 11.15am today, at the

Monash Conference Centre, Boardroom, Level 11, 30 Collins Street, Melbourne.
