Media Release
Wednesday, 22 September 2010
Restrictions, floods, and new desalination technology make our water a complex issue, but
the value of this wavering resource is infinite.
While supply augmentation plays an important role, so do we as human beings.
Australians should remain mindful of the way we use water at home and in industry, and
today a shortlist of water efficient businesses, government organisations, schools, local
communities and individuals were announced for the 2010 savewater! awards
®
Now in its eighth year, the prestigious savewater! awards
®
recognise and reward excellence
in water conservation and efficiency, with the 2010 program attracting over 1200 entrants
from across Australia and internationally.
The independent judging process was headed by environmental consultant, Mr Rob Gell, with
an expert panel of judges to determine the 40 shortlisted leaders in water sustainability
across seven categories.
Mr Rob Gell, environmental consultant and head judge, was impressed with the 2010 entries.
"We continue to see innovative programs coming forward and in greater numbers, he said.
Each of this years finalists has demonstrated the high level of water savings that the judging
panel requires, but we're also seeing programs that are more comprehensive in their scope
and which deliver a range of positive environmental outcomes, Gell said.
Many of the finalists have set new standards for their respective industries, which we expect
will inspire and promote best sustainable practice in the future, he said.
Winners will be announced at the awards Gala Ceremony on Friday 12 November 2010.
