Pedal power and people power meet across the planet
December 1, 2009: Cyclists from around the globe will take to the streets this Sunday, 6th
December, as people take action against climate change from Azerbaijan to Australia on the
eve of the climate change negotiations in Copenhagen. For the Sydney event, cyclists will
ride from the Sydney Opera House to Centennial Park on the eve of the climate change
negotiations in Copenhagen.
Ride Planet Earth aims to convince governments to take immediate action in order to
secure a global climate deal. Participants are taking action to demonstrate that ordinary
people will step up if governments fail to reach an agreement.
Ride Planet Earth was started by Sydney resident Kim Nguyen who is about to complete
an eighteen-month solo cycle from Brisbane, Australia to Copenhagen, Denmark. Kim has
been raising awareness on the impacts of climate change and collecting messages from
people worldwide already suffering the consequences and demanding change.
Over the course of the journey, people from all over the world have joined in, meeting with
him along the way and following Kims journey on the internet. Ride Planet Earth events will
be happening on every continent -bar Antarctica - this weekend to demand action on climate
change.
