Junior Landcarers get their hands dirty on Norman Creek.
Students from West End State School will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty and help
improve their local environment while participating in an ENERGEX Junior Landcare activity day
on Thursday 03 December.
West End State School is one of 10 schools participating in the ENERGEX Junior Landcare activity
program, a joint initiative of Landcare Queensland and ENERGEX. The initial year of the program
will see nearly 300 students across South East Queensland learning about sustainability issues and
participating in a revegetation activity in their local catchment.
West End
State School will partner with Norman Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee to
spend a day in a living classroom and learn about their local catchment, assisting with a
revegetation project and water quality monitoring.
Chloe Tanner, Manager of Landcare Queensland said, the ENERGEX Junior Landcare activity days
focus on on-ground projects
being carried out by local landcare groups which can involve the
school community and create interest and involvement among the broader community.
Junior Landcare teaches children about environmental sustainability in a fun and hands-on
learning environment. It is a great way to get youth connecting with and learning about nature,
as well as encouraging them to get outdoors.
The ENERGEX Junior Landcare activity day will make a real difference at a grassroots level,
said Miss Tanner, It will involve the school with the local landcare group and really get them
thinking about how they can reduce their footprint on the environment, which is the key to
preserving it for future generations.
The ENERGEX Junior Landcare activity day with West End State School and Norman Creek
Catchment Coordinating Committee will take place on Thursday 03 December at 9.45am,
follow the signs from the end of Nicholson Street, Greenslopes, (UBD Map 180 F11.)
