Junior Landcarers get their hands dirty in Conondale

Students from Conondale State School will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty and help

improve their local environment while participating in an ENERGEX Junior Landcare activity day

on Wednesday, February 10.

Conondale State School is one of 10 schools participating in the ENERGEX Junior Landcare activity

program, a joint initiative of Landcare Queensland and ENERGEX. So far, the initial year of the

program has

engaged

nearly 300 students across South East Queensland and more than 2500

native trees and shrubs have been planted through revegetation activities.

Conondale State School will work with Barung Landcare and spend a day in a living classroom,

learning

about their local catchment, assisting with a real on-ground project and undertaking

water quality and catchment health activities.

Chloe Tanner, Manager of Landcare Queensland said, the ENERGEX Junior Landcare activity days

add value to local communities by focusing on and supporting real on-ground projects that local

landcare groups are working on, raising awareness of their activities in the catchment and

increasing community interest and potentially participation in sustainability initiatives.

“Junior Landcare teaches children about environmental sustainability in a fun and hands-on

learning environment. It is a great way to get youth connecting with and learning about nature,

as well as encouraging them to get outdoors.”

“The ENERGEX Junior Landcare activity day will make a real difference at a grassroots level,”

said Miss Tanner, “It will involve the school with the local landcare group and really get them

thinking about how they can reduce their footprint on the environment, which is the key to

preserving it for future generations.”

The ENERGEX Junior Landcare activity day with Conondale State School and Barung Landcare

group will take place on Wednesday February 10 at 9.45am, 272 Ahern Road, Conondale.

Follow the signs from the road into the property.
