Hunters support Government Conservation Initiative.

An initiative by the Victorian Government to facilitate Property Based Game
Management Plans (PBGMP's) between hunters and private land-holders was 'world's
best practise' and should be applauded because it will lead to positive environmental outcomes for a diverse range of native wildlife in Victoria.

Field & Game Australia (FGA) CEO Rod Drew said "There was nothing new about
hunters working with governments and land-holders on conservation projects; FGA has been doing this for fifty years.

The new PBGMP initiative is part of the Victorian Governments 'State Game Initiative' and encourages private land-holders and hunters to formalise arrangements under a property conservation plan where land-holders are encouraged to restore natural habitats and use the specialised talents of hunters who pay the land-holder a fee or provide voluntary on ground works to the project."

Mr Drew also said "Opposition to the proposal from animal rights extremists and Victorian Greens MP Mr Greg Barber, demonstrated ignorance of good environmental practise. I am more than happy to take Mr Barber on a tour around Victoria and show him first hand the positive conservation works that have been undertaken by Victorian hunters and the negative impacts in areas where feral pest management is lacking."

The conservation benefits of PBGMP are well established with many successful
programs in Australia and around the world, particularly United Kingdom, America and Africa.
