Putting Power Back in the Hands of the People

20/02/09
MEDIA RELEASE

FAMILY FIRST calls on all parties to support efficient "green" power as an energy source for the future. All families, schools and community centres (and in fact every building with a roof) should embrace emerging solar-thermal technology NOT THE INEFFICIENT PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAR ENERGY CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.

Lawrence Springborg has indicated intentions to mine uranium and develop nuclear infrastructure, perhaps because renewables technology currently in use is incapable of supplying enough power. Anna Bligh wants us to be the "Solar State" but has the wrong technology and is not pursuing solar power strongly enough. Campbell Newman rightly suggests that the wholesale exploit of renewables should be our first port of call.

Emerging solar-thermal technology has the ability to collect 87% of the sun's energy and (for home roof-top units) produces 120kWh per day, an excess over home use of conservatively 100kwh. This new technology is 4 times more efficient than any photovoltaic solutions currently in the marketplace. It has the ability to provide a passive income for working families and will prove to be far more economical than accepting the Federal Government's (soon-to-be -abolished) $8000 rebate.

Family First calls on all Queenslanders to support renewables technology and for the State Government to provide increased Gross Feed-in Tariffs as the ACT has recently legislated. PUT POWER BACK IN THE HANDS OF THE PEOPLE. Queenslanders do not want to be subjected to rising energy costs, especially when working families need dollars in their pockets more than ever.
