–– Expert comment on World Environment Day ––

What are the latest cutting-edge developments in green and clean energy?

How could solar-powered technologies solve Melbourne’s water problems?

What kind of sustainable energy technologies are likely to become standard

features in the buildings and cars of the future?

RMIT University renewable energy expert, Dr John Andrews, is available for

interview on issues related to World Environment Day (Friday, 5 June).

“Sustainable energy is the key to meeting 2020 and longer-term targets for

reducing greenhouse gas emissions and avoiding catastrophic climate change”, Dr

Andrews said.

“RMIT researchers are working on a range of cutting-edge renewable energy

technologies, including solar thermal desalination and solar-hydrogen systems.

“We’re searching for the technologies that can make renewable energy more

accessible, more efficient and more economical.

“Finding the solutions to the biggest environmental problems that confront our

world today is what drives our efforts in sustainable engineering.”

Dr Andrews is the Program Director of the Master of Engineering (Sustainable

Energy), in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.

In celebration of World Environment Day, RMIT’s Sustainable Energy Park will

open its gates to visitors on Saturday, 6 June, from 10am to 1pm.

The event, at RMIT’s Bundoora campus, will include guided tours of the park,

including solar and evaporation ponds, fuel cell systems, a weather station, a

renewable energy laboratory and a wind power generator.

Dr John Andrews, (03) 9925 6085 or 0409 400 858.

For general media enquiries: RMIT University Media and Communications,
