PRESS RELEASE - PRESS RELEASE - PRESS RELEASE

Issued: Wednesday April 23, 2008

East could be in for wild Long Weekend weather

Computer simulations are indicating an interesting turn in weather developments over the next

few days leading up to the ANZAC Day long weekend, according to The Weather Channel’s

Senior Meteorologist, Dick Whitaker.

If in fact the weather does match

predictions this will mean that the majority of Eastern

Australia will be confronted by wild weather patterns bringing rain and even snow.

“It looks like we’ll se a low pressure cell developing off the NSW north coast on Thursday, and

that means further rain and strong winds across the area during Thursday and Friday,”

Whitaker said.

“And then it looks as though we’ll see a strong cold front race across southeastern Australia on

Saturday and Sunday, affecting South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and the southern half of

NSW, which will most like bring some vitally needed rain to some of the worst drought affected

areas of these states, but could we also see a good snow-dump on the highlands of Tasmania

Victoria and southern NSW,” Whitaker added.

“Strong winds are likely across the area with this front as well so this will be a factor we watch

carefully.”

Capital city forecasts for ANZAC day:

Melbourne: Late showers; 11 to 21C
