50 leading scientists to issue Woodlands Declaration
Urgent plea to WA Premier calling for protection of
Great Western Woodlands
50 leading Australian and international scientists will tomorrow release the
Woodlands Declaration an urgent plea to WA Premier Colin Barnett and
Environment Minister Donna Faragher to protect the Great Western Woodlands.
The scientists are alarmed about the damage uncontrolled wildfires and poor
management of the globally significant Great Western Woodlands in the south west
of WA is having on endangered species and the health of the region.
The Woodlands Declaration will be released by two internationally respected
scientists, Dr. Denis Saunders, member of the Wentworth Group and President of
WWF Australia, and Professor Stephen Hopper, a native West Australian but now
Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, England - the worlds leading
botanical garden.
