Intersolar India Opens With First-Class Conference Program

PFORZHEIM and FREIBURG, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ --

    - Intersolar India 2009 Hyderabad, November 9 - 11, 2009

In association with SOLARCON(R) India, Intersolar India will take place

for the first time from November 9 - 11, 2009 in Hyderabad, India and is the

country's premier photovoltaics conference. Approximately 50 renowned experts

will speak about current trends and new markets in the international

photovoltaics industry across 12 sessions. Additional panel discussions and

workshops will offer plenty of opportunity for information exchange. The

event will focus specifically on the development of the Indian PV solar

market.

The solar industry in sun-rich India is currently experiencing a strong

course of growth. The contents of the "National Solar Mission" initiated by

India's Ministry for New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) will be published in

November. The Indian government's plan is ambitious: the capacity of Indian

solar installations is to be expanded from the current 2.1 megawatts (MW) to

a total of 20 gigawatts (GW) by the year 2020. To reach this goal, India will

be supporting both photovoltaic installations and solar thermal power plants.

The government estimates the costs of this "solar offensive" will total

around US$ 20 billion over the next 30 years. The Solar Mission is to be

financed by increased taxation on gasoline and diesel fuels, which have been

heavily subsidized to date.

International experts hold discussions at Intersolar India

Set against the backdrop of developments in the Indian solar market,

members of the international photovoltaics industry will meet at the

International Convention Centre in Hyderabad, India, for the first time from

November 9 - 11, 2009. Around 50 international experts will discuss the

importance of political, media and technological influences on industry

development, as well as the Indian National Solar Mission. In addition,

themes that traverse both environmental policy and technology will be brought

to light, as will product innovations and examples of trend-setting

applications.

The keynote speaker on the first day of the event will be Prof. Eicke

Weber (PhD), Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems

(ISE) in Freiburg. As part of the program, Dr. Murray Cameron, Vice President

of the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) and COO of Phoenix

Solar AG, will provide participants with an assessment of European PV policy

from the point of view of EPIA. Innovations in the field of PV inverter

technology will be presented by Professor Bruno Burger (PhD), head of the

Power Electronics Group at Fraunhofer ISE.

Other participants to grace the podium include Debashish Majumdar,

Chairman and Managing Director of the Indian Renewable Energy Development

Agency; K. Subramanya, CEO of Tata BP Solar; G. Rajeswaran, CTO of Moser Baer

Photovoltaic; Dr. Charlie Gay, President of the Solar Business Group at

Applied Materials and Prof. Peter Adelmann, Ulm University of Applied

Sciences, Germany.

which will feature approximately 50 exhibitors. From 2010 onward, the

exhibition will be greatly expanded.
