Clean Energy Council welcomes task group report

The Clean Energy Council has welcomed the comprehensive report of the Prime Minister’s

Task Group on Energy Efficiency.

CEC Chief Executive Matthew Warren said the recommendations of the task group report

could deliver a variety of additional benefits beyond reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

“This document has the potential to create the jobs of the future and attract investment,

driving growth in Australia’s energy efficiency industry.

“Recent price rises due to network upgrades have shown that we need to be smarter and

more efficient in the way we use our electricity now, as well as the way we plan for future

infrastructure investment,” he said.

“Energy efficiency measures can play an important role in protecting households from higher

electricity bills in the future.

“There’s no simple solution for dealing with climate change. To meet the challenge we need

investment in clean energy and energy efficiency along with a price on carbon.

“Taking an effective step forward on energy efficiency will help to prepare our economy for

the introduction of a price on carbon.

“It’s encouraging to see the task group taking on board many of the CEC’s recommendations

including the adoption of a national target and improvements in the energy efficiency

assessments of buildings.

“We look forward to working with the government on good policy to ensure the effective

delivery of energy efficiency programs across the country,” he said.
