60 MW for Bangladesh -  MWM Gets Large Order for Mannheim

MANNHEIM, Jan. 15 /PRNewsire-AsiaNet/ --

Within the scope of a large order, Mannheim-based MWM has

shipped no less than 15 gas gensets with an output of 4 MWel each to

Bangladesh. The project, which is unprecedented in the company's history, was

started in spring of last year and is currently being installed at the

destination. The buyer is a power plant of Precision Energy Ltd., a specially

formed subsidiary of a leading group of companies in Bangladesh.

MWM, a tradition-rich company established by Carl Benz, is one of the

world's leading providers of decentralized energy generation plants. The TCG

2016, 2020, and 2032 engines, which deliver an output of 300 to 4,300 kWel,

are marketed in Asia by the company's own subsidiary MWM Asia Pacific Ltd. in

Singapore. Among other things, this location advantage enables the company to

ensure competent and quick service along with extensive, quick supply of

spare parts in the entire Asia/Pacific region.

With its 15 large gas gensets, the natural gas-powered plant

in Ashugong, Bangladesh, will generate a total of 60 MWel, all of which will

be fed into the public grid. Bangladesh, with its population of about 150

million, is one of the most densely populated countries. Meanwhile, the country's

daily demand for electricity has grown to 5,200 MW, compared to no more than

4,000 MW actually produced. Investments worth USD 15 billion are needed by

2020 in order to prevent the power industry from becoming an impediment to

the country's development.

"The project also contributes to the promotion of the required

investments for the maintenance and expansion of power production in

Bangladesh", explains Dr. Ruprecht Lattermann, President and CEO of MWM Asia

Pacific. The realization of the order represents further proof of MWM's

growth strategy, which has resulted in the implementation of numerous

projects in the application fields of natural gas, biogas, and diesel through

an ambitious marketing approach in the past two years. Just recently, the

company opened an office in Korea.

The 15 gas gensets, which have arrived in Bangladesh in the

meantime, have covered a total distance of about 16,000 km (10,000 mi). About

40 low-bed trailers were needed for transporting this heavy equipment from

the port in Chittagong to the destination.

The project was rolled out with Kaltimex Energy Pvt. Ltd. from

Dhaka, Bangladesh, which has already successfully implemented numerous local

projects with MWM and has established an efficient sales and customer service

organization in recent years. According to the MWM headquarters in Mannheim,

Germany, the commercial launch of the new power plant Ashugong is scheduled

for the first half of 2010.

The long-established company MWM in Mannheim, Germany, is one of the

world's leading system providers of highly efficient and eco-friendly

complete plants for decentralized power supply with gas and diesel engines.

The company stands for the reliable, uninterrupted provision of electricity,

heat, and cooling at all times and at any location. MWM has 1,150 employees
