Coloured Thoroughbreds now a reality in Oz.

Boutique Thoroughbred stud WINNING COLOURS FARM situated in the Central Tablelands of NSW

have made history with their first born colt of the 2009 season.    The colt is a spectacularly marked

individual and is the first ‘frame-overo’ (coloured) thoroughbred to be born in the Southern

Hemisphere.

Recognised by the Australian Studbook,  the colt has been aptly named’ Framed In History’ by the

Stud’s owner, Grant McLaren, and is out of  racewinning mare Heleray (by Bletchingly’s Bletchalot).

The colt is sired by the Stud’s imported Thoroughbred

stallion Profile In Style (USA) (pictured right with Grant

McLaren and partner Peta Oxenbridge)  who shares the

rare and unique colour gene known as ‘frame-overo’.

Profile In Style (USA) was imported by Grant McLaren in

2007 and is well related being bred on the proven and

dominant Halo sire line, with his Dam a granddaughter of

USA’s legendary Secretariat.

WINNING COLOURS FARM have several high quality

broodmares in foal to Profile In Style (USA) including

racewinning daughters of Zabeel (NZ) and Rock Of

Gibraltar.   It is with these high quality mares that the Stud hopes to see its dream of producing

premium racing stock with spectacular coat patterns.  With coloured thoroughbred having fetched up

to $80,000USD on colour alone, the fancy coat pattern could be a way for owners to maximise their

foals worth, and to retain value post racing.  With the huge crowd appeal that unusually marked

racehorses attract, one could only see them as a positive addition the sport.
