Swap Til You Drop for National Recycling Week

The City of Sydney and Planet Ark will host the Big Aussie Swap at 12.30 pm on Tuesday 10 November in Martin Place to celebrate National Recycling Week (9 - 15 November 2009).

Everyone is invited to join the exciting swapping action by bringing along up to three, easy to carry quality items you no longer want. Exchange them for tokens, then browse, choose, swap and enjoy it's that easy to reuse!

Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said the event will be one of a number of national swap events being held simultaneously on the day around the country in Brisbane, Darwin, Perth, Sydney, Coffs Harbour, Parramatta and Wollongong.

"This is an event where you can trade things you no longer need for things you do all for free. At last year's event more than 500 people traded 2,000 items."

"This is a fun way to communicate a serious message. We need to start reducing what we consume as a priority, reuse things we already have and recycle as much as we can."

"Sustainable Sydney 2030 aims to do exactly this and National Recycling Week is an opportune time to think about what we can all do to reduce our environmental footprint," Ms Moore said.

If two people want the same item the dispute will be settled by a sudden death match of Rock, Paper, Scissors.

The event will also include live entertainment with Monica Trapagar and the Bachelors, the return of the Live Green House, and collection stations for old mobile phones, toner cartridges, corks and even eye-glasses for recycling.
