4th Japan-Germany Industry Forum: Powering the Future With Clean Energy

    Germany is the largest photovoltaics market in the world.

Double-digit growth rates are expected to continue in the coming years.

Market potential for German and Japanese companies in the photovoltaics and

energy storage industries will be the focus of the Japan-Germany Industry

Forum, which will take place from October 22-24 in Tokyo and Osaka.


    The forum is being held with the motto "Powering the Future

with Clean Energy." The focus will be on investment possibilities for

Japanese companies in the German market. It will also identify fields of

application for battery technologies. Given the rising segment of renewables

in the energy mix, both mobile and stationary energy storage is of growing

importance. Japanese companies are currently leading in this field.


    The organizer of the forum is Invest in Germany, the inward

investment promotion agency of the federal government, in cooperation with

the Economic Development Corporations of the federal states and the German

Embassy in Japan. The forum will take place for the fourth year in a row.

This year's forum is an integral part and culmination of Invest in Germany's

"Powerhouse Eastern Germany" marketing campaign.


    Wolfgang Tiefensee, Federal Minister of Transport, Building

and Urban Affairs, as well as the Commissioner for the New Federal States,

will give the opening speech in Tokyo. The growing importance and importance

of photovoltaics will be addressed by Rutger Schlatmann, Managing Director of

PV Competence Center in Berlin, Shunji Orita, President of Yamaichi

Electronics Co., Ltd. (Tokyo), and Akira Kosaba, Director of the Connector

Business Division for Yamaichi Electronics Co., Ltd. (Osaka), among others.

Yamaichi established its own semi-conductor production in Frankfurt/Oder.

Since then, the successful site has expanded considerably.


    Possibilities in energy storage will be presented by experts

from Germany and Japan. Dr. Torsten Henzelmann, Partner for Roland Berger

Strategy Consultants, will provide information on macrotrends as well as an

overview of the future market development. Dr. Christian Dötsch, from the

Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT

in Oberhausen, Germany, will analyze the range of applications for different

technologies, as well as pilot projects conducted by companies such as

Daimler and Smart. Shoshi Kawatsu, General Manager for the Super Charge

Battery Division at the Toshiba Corporation, will use the motorcycle as an

example to demonstrate the special features of mobile applications in energy

storage. Tomio Tamakoshi, Manager System Engineering, NGK Insulators, Ltd.,

will introduce the company's energy storage system, which makes NGK is one of

the world leaders in this area.


    In addition to providing information on the developments and

perspectives of both industries, the forum will also provide information on

legal and fiscal conditions concerning Japanese companies in Germany.
