MEDIA RELEASE
Seriously Ill Puppy Stolen from RSPCA Shelter
RSPCA NSW is extremely concerned for the welfare of a seriously ill puppy that was
stolen from the Illawarra Shelter yesterday.
Staff members were shocked to discover Bundy, a six-month-old Silky Terrier and
Maltese cross, missing from his kennel at the Shelter- Industrial Rd, Unanderra.
Bundy is suffering from an Open Fontanelle, a condition that stops the bones of the
skull meeting in the middle. Since he arrived at the Shelter he has been under close
veterinary observation and is not yet suitable for adoption.
Bundy needs continued daily monitoring as the condition can cause other life-
threatening problems such as fluid and pressure on the brain. Without treatment it
can lead to seizures and comas, and it can be fatal, said RSPCA NSW Chief
Veterinarian Dr Magdoline Awad.
The person who took him would not be aware of his condition or the vital need for
treatment. However it is an offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act
not to provide an ill animal with veterinary treatment, and can lead to prosecution.
Unanderra Shelter Manager Judith Wright is pleading with the person who stole
Bundy to return him as soon as possible so he can receive the treatment he needs.
Our only concern is for the welfare of Bundy so please just drop him off and leave
him in the overnight kennels out the front of the Shelter.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Illawarra RSPCA Shelter on
(02) 4271 3410.
