Sentencing for Multiple Animal Cruelty Charges
Andrew Cochrane of Yass will be sentenced for multiple animal cruelty offences, as well as a breach of a Good Behaviour Bond, in Goulburn Local Court tomorrow 2 September 2009.
In June 2005 over 200 sheep died on Cochrane's property from starvation and cold. He subsequently pleaded guilty to 30 counts of aggravated animal cruelty, and one count of failing to provide proper and sufficient food to 350 sheep. Cochrane was placed on a 2-year Good Behaviour Bond (section 9) for the aggravated cruelty charges, and a further 6-month Good Behaviour Bond (section 9) for the food charge. He was also ordered to pay $4,500 in RSPCA professional costs.
In addition to the Breach of Bond, Andrew Cochrane will tomorrow be sentenced on two separate matters. In the first matter he is charged with one count of aggravated animal cruelty. In the second matter he is charged with one count each of aggravated animal cruelty and failing to exercise reasonable care, and three counts of failing to provide veterinary treatment.
All charges relate to sheep and cattle in his care.
