Pigs to plead their case in Franklin Square
A unique animal delegation will be descending on Primary Industries Minister
Bryan Green's office in Franklin Square, Hobart tomorrow. Four rescued pigs
from Brightside Farm Sanctuary will be walking from Parliament lawns to
Franklin Square. Their mission? To plead for Minister Green to accept the
recommendation of the Tasmanian Animal Welfare Advisory Committee
(AWAC) to ban the use of cruel pregnant sow stalls in Tasmania by 2017.

Background
Sow stalls have been banned in the UK on the basis of unacceptable cruelty for over
a decade. If Minister Green accepts AWAC's recommendation Tasmania will be
the first state in Australia to ban these cruel devices, which legally can confine
mother pigs barely able to move for months on end.
