Saturday 21 March 2009
The Coalition Against Duck Shooting rescue team, comprising 150 volunteers, will target
wetlands near Sale in Gippsland, probably either Dowds Morass at the end of Leggs
Road, or Clydebank State Game Reserve near the end of Marley Road.
The final choice will depend on bird and duck-shooter numbers on Friday night.
The rescue team will depart the Thomson River Caravan Park on the South Gippsland
Highway, two kilometres south of Sale at 5.15 – 5.30 am on Saturday March 21.
Wildlife Victoria’s mobile veterinary team will be in attendance to treat wounded waterbirds
and will be joined by Healesville Sanctuary Senior Veterinarian, Dr Rupert Baker.
Campaign Director, Laurie Levy today said: “Wildlife Victoria and Healesville Sanctuary
have been on the front line treating injured and burnt wildlife during the recent horrific
bushfires. After working extensively to save native burns victims, the team will now have
to deal with the unnecessary casualties of a recreational duck-shooting season.”
