FGA Fox Hunter is One in 1,001
Field and Game Australia member Peter Bowker is the 2009 FoxStop
campaign winner taking home a brand new Mitsubishi Triton for his fox
hunting efforts.
Minister for Agriculture Hon. Joe Helper today presented Peter with the keys
to his new vehicle saying the efforts of fox hunters right across Victoria has
been very impressive.
There are more than 6,250 foxes which will no longer bother stock animals
or destroy native animals in Victoria said Mr Helper.
In the first year of the FoxStop program members of Field and Game
Australia and SSAA-Vic hunted foxes in all areas of the state. 1,001 fox
hunters and fox hunting teams registered between May and November this
year.
Field and Game Australia CEO, Rod Drew said members have invested
thousands of hours hunting foxes under the program and many are already
gearing up for next year.
Mr Drew paid tribute to the team captains who organised groups of up to 20
hunters at a time to sweep farm properties clean of every fox they could find.
Individual hunters and teams of all sizes will continue to make a concerted
effort over the next three years to reduce the terrible impact foxes have on
Victorias farming industries and the natural environment, said Mr Drew.
Peter Bowker is a member of the South Gippsland Field and Game Branch.
